Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 18, 2026Sommaire ("the App") is developed and published by Stephane Boutet ("we", "us", "our"), an individual based in California, United States.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles and how. Please read the summary below. It is the most important part of this document.
Summary
Sommaire does not collect your personal data. We operate no servers, and your recordings never reach us.
- The App has no user accounts and no sign-in.
- Everything you create (audio recordings, photos, notes, transcripts and AI summaries) is stored only on your device.
- Transcription and AI summaries are generated on your device using Apple's built-in frameworks. Your recordings are not uploaded for processing.
- We use no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs of any kind.
- Your content leaves your device only when you choose to export or share it.
Information the App Handles
All of the following is created by you and stored locally on your device. We never receive it.
Content you create
- Audio recordings captured through the microphone during a session.
- Photos taken with the camera during a session.
- Notes you type.
- Transcripts generated from your audio recordings.
- AI summaries, action items and key points generated from your transcripts.
- Session details such as the title you give a session and the date and time it was created.
Location
If you grant location permission, the App determines your approximate location once, at the start of a session, in order to label that session with a city and state name (for example, "Palo Alto, California").
- Only the city and state name is stored. Precise coordinates are not saved.
- The lookup that converts your coordinates into a place name is performed by Apple's MapKit service and is therefore handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.
- Location is requested only while you are using the App, and the App works normally if you decline.
Permissions the App requests
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Microphone | To record audio during a session |
| Speech Recognition | To transcribe your recordings into text |
| Camera | To take photos during a session |
| Photo Library | To save photos you capture |
| Location (While Using) | To label a session with a city and state name |
You can change or revoke any of these at any time in the iOS Settings app.
Apple Technologies Used
The App uses features built into your device and into iOS. Where Apple processes information, Apple's own privacy policy applies (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/).
- Speech framework: converts your audio recordings into text on your device.
- Apple Intelligence (Foundation Models framework): generates summaries, action items and key points from your transcripts. This runs on your device; your transcripts are not sent to us or to any third-party AI service.
- Vision framework: recognises text that appears inside photos you take (OCR), on your device.
- MapKit: converts coordinates into a city and state name, as described above.
- StoreKit: processes subscription purchases. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple. We never see or receive your payment details, card number, or Apple Account credentials.
Sharing and Exporting
The App can export a session as a PDF, RTF, Markdown or plain-text file, and can bundle your original recordings and photos into a backup archive.
Exporting is always initiated by you. When you export, you choose the destination, for example the iOS share sheet, the Mail app, or saving to Files or iCloud Drive. Once you send content somewhere, it is governed by the privacy policy of that destination or recipient, not by this one. We are not party to that transfer and receive no copy.
Data Retention and Deletion
Because your content is stored only on your device, you control it entirely:
- Delete an individual session or artifact from within the App.
- Use Delete All Data in Settings to remove everything the App has stored.
- Deleting the App from your device removes all of its data.
We hold no copy of your content, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete on your behalf.
Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone. Because the App collects no personal data and requires no account, no information about a child is transmitted to us.
Recordings may capture the voices of other people. Please be considerate, and see the Terms of Use regarding your responsibility for obtaining consent before recording others.
Your Rights
Privacy laws such as the GDPR (European Economic Area and UK) and the CCPA/CPRA (California) grant rights to access, correct, delete, and port your personal data, and to object to its processing.
We can honour these rights only in a limited sense, because we hold no personal data about you. There is no account to access, no profile to correct, and no record to export. Your content resides solely on your device and is fully under your control there.
We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not engage in "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising as those terms are defined under California law.
Security
Your content is stored in the App's private storage area on your device and is protected by iOS's built-in security and file protection, including your device passcode, Face ID or Touch ID. We recommend keeping a device passcode enabled and your device updated.
No method of electronic storage is completely secure, and content you choose to export leaves that protection.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and post the new policy at the address where the App links to it. Material changes will be brought to your attention within the App or the App Store release notes. Continued use of the App after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
